What Does An LDT-C Do?
A Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDT-C) wears many hats:
- Educational Specialist on IEP Team
- Facilitator of Meetings and In-Services
- Case Manager
- Educational Diagnostician
What Are Their Qualifications?
A Learning Consultant is a faculty member who has:
- Special education training
- At least five years classroom experience
- Involvement in professional organizations
- Strong communication skills
- Current knowledge of best practices in regular and special education
- Completed a post-graduate LDT-C certification program
What Roles Does an LDT-C Serve?
1. Evaluates children and adolescents to determine learning difficulties and analyzes results to diagnose each student’s strengths and weaknesses.
2. Helps to establish and maintain an appropriate program for children who have special learning needs, including: designing instructional strategies maintaining performance and program needs
3. Works with classroom teachers in a variety of educational settings to ensure that the student’s classroom experiences meet his or her needs.
4. Liaisons between the student and other professionals providing services, e.g.
5. Provides information and guidance to parents regarding their child’s educational program and progress.
6. Provides in-service training to teachers within the school system
